Big picture Perspective
This is my end-to-end research system, but in practice I adapt it based on context.
Sometimes it’s a two-week loop, sometimes a multi-quarter service initiative.
The structure stays the same; the depth changes.
- Discover: Conduct user interviews, surveys, observations, and contextual inquiries to gather insights.
- Define: Synthesize findings into personas, user needs, pain points, and problem statements.
- Develop: Ideate and prototype solutions based on research insights; usability testing and feedback loops.
- Deliver: Refine solutions using iterative testing; produce final designs, user journey maps, and actionable recommendations.
Double Diamond Model
In user research, the Double Diamond model guides understanding and solution development:
It ensures research informs design while balancing exploration and focus.
- Start narrow: Begin with a focused problem or hypothesis.
- Expand broadly: Explore a wide range of ideas and solutions.
- Narrow down: Select the most promising solution to implement.
🔻Reverse Diamond
The Reverse Diamond model flips the Double Diamond:
Usage in sprint sessions:Ideal for fast-paced design sprints, it helps teams start with a clear goal, rapidly explore ideas, and converge on a testable prototype within a short time frame.
Reserach Strategy
I adjusted this framework to the Double Diamond model for my study, and in each project scope, I follow it according to available budget, research questions, and timeline:
